File # 2013-2975

On December 2, 2013, 61 year old Christina Docherty was found deceased in her apartment as a result of what was later determined to be an altercation with another women.

On April 25, 2014, Trudy Gail Hunter was arrested in Maple Ridge and charged with 2nd degree murder in Ms. Docherty’s death.

After a jury trial spanning several weeks in January and February 2016, on March 3, 2016 a jury found Ms. Hunter guilty of 2nd degree murder.

This investigation was bolstered by forensic evidence which was paramount to its success. A guilty verdict reinforces the hard work of IHIT investigators, Burnaby RCMP, our support units in the Lower Mainland and our partners at Crown Counsel. It also speaks to the support of witnesses who came forward to provide information that assisted in putting this matter before the courts.  Says Sgt. Stephanie Ashton, Media Relations Officer for IHIT.

Sentencing is expected for Ms. Hunter on April 4, 2016.
