Man charged in murder of police officer

Abbotsford: The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has secured charges against a man in connection with the homicide of Abbotsford police officer Constable John Davidson.

On November 6, 2017, just after 11:30 a.m., the Abbotsford Police Department responded to a report of a possible stolen vehicle in the parking lot of a shopping complex in the 3200-block of Mount Lehman Road.

Police believe that shots were fired towards the direction of the general public by the suspect. Multiple 911 calls were received by police.

Shots were fired as police arrived at the scene. It was at this time that Cst. Davidson was fatally wounded. The suspect then fled in the stolen vehicle and was apprehended by Abbotsford police at the intersection of Mount Lehman Road and Fraser Highway.

Oscar Arfmann, 65, of Alberta is charged with one count of first degree murder.

IHIT is seeking public assistance in locating any video and/or photographs taken during yesterday’s incident. We are also requesting that any witnesses to the events that have not yet spoken to police, please contact IHIT investigators.

In order to further IHIT’s investigation, a photo of Mr. Arfmann is being issued publicly to assist us in retracing his movements in the days leading up to the events.
