IHIT called to Sechelt homicide – Charges Laid

Sechelt: A woman has been arrested and charged with second degree murder in connection with the homicide of Max Fischer.
On August 21, 2019 just before 9 p.m., the Sunshine Coast RCMP received a call from neighbours of 79-year-old Max Fischer found dead in his residence in the 10900-block of Sunshine Coast Highway. Emergency responders found suspicious injuries on Mr. Fischer and his death was deemed a homicide. An arrest was quickly made in relation to Mr. Fischer’s death. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was deployed to Sechelt to take conduct of the investigation.
IHIT is working closely with the Sunshine Coast RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services and the B.C. Coroners Service to gather evidence.
Investigators quickly determined that this was an isolated incident and there was no risk to public safety. Mr. Fischer’s family was notified of his death and victim services was engaged to provide support.
On August 22, 2019, Mr. Fischer’s 54-year-old wife, Karin Fischer, was charged with second degree murder for his death. Karin Fischer will appear before a judge in B.C. Provincial Court on August 23, 2019.
IHIT investigators remain in Sechelt continuing their investigation and collecting further evidence, says Sergeant Frank Jang of IHIT.
